Our Ten Year Black Label "Hazmat" Single Barrel Barrel Strength Bourbon has a name so superlative it takes 10 words to convey this whiskey in its entirety. Our Black Label whiskeys represent the top 1% of what we produce, and aged more than a full decade, this barrel is the oldest we've released. At 76.6% alcohol by volume, it will appeal to those who like our high proof offerings, and its age statement is definitive for craft, and impressive for all but the most established distillers.
On May 10th, 2015, when this barrel was filled, the Sunday Times declared an end to a deadly Ebola epidemic in Liberia. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was handed a suspension for his role in the Deflategate scandal. Barack Obama was still president, and American Pharoah was looking forward to the second leg of the Triple Crown that he would win for the first time since Affirmed in 1978. It was a remarkably different world, and this whiskey spans an era in all of our lives.
Truly a time capsule, this whiskey represents the culmination of our project at Kings County to bring pot still and pre-prohibition production techniques back to American whiskey. I can't think of anything that we have released more emblematic than this single barrel bourbon:
Nose: marasca cherry, basil, baker's chocolate, vetiver, burnt orange peel
Palate: fig glaze, rhubarb pie, Concord grape, tobacco leaf, vanilla bean
Finish: red-wine reduction, robust, lingering finish
Each bottle is packaged in a handsome wooden box, and comes with a numbered edition data card. Priced at $299, it's the most expensive whiskey we've released, and somehow feels like a bargain relative to what other distillers, large and small, charge. It's a superlative whiskey on every measure, and is a bottle to cherish for the highest purpose.
