Kings County Distillery is New York City’s oldest operating whiskey distillery, the first since prohibition. Founded in 2010, Kings County makes handmade moonshine and bourbon out of the 113-year-old Paymaster Building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.  The distillery uses New York grain and traditional distilling equipment to make distinctive whiskey.  Our moonshine won “Best in Category” for corn whiskey at the 2011 American Distilling Institute’s Craft Spirits Conference and Kings County won silver medals for both whiskies at the 2013 Conference.  We only distill whiskey for our label and we never buy bulk whiskey from any other source.

Distillery tours are offered every Saturday afternoon (more information below).

Guide to Urban Moonshining

We wrote a book about whiskey, to be published this fall on October 22nd by Abrams.  Here’s some information from the publisher:

“This book is a guide to America's indigenous spirit—from the whiskey made by the earliest colonists to the sprawling distilleries of Kentucky to the adventurous craft distillers working today in almost every state. It answers many questions that have mystified amateurs and enthusiasts alike, including what, precisely, makes whiskey whiskey. And it is also a manual for how to make homemade whiskey, otherwise known as moonshine, safely and deliciously (if not quite legally). Offering clear instruction and advice, along with recipes for whiskey drinks and dishes, and recommendations for outfitting the perfect home bar, this is an indispensable companion for both the distiller and the drinker, written by the founders of the first whiskey distillery in New York City since prohibition.”

Come to our book launch on October 23rd. Or get your own copy here, here, or here or in your local store anytime after that.

Distillery Tours

The distillery is open for tours and tastings from 2:30pm to 5:30pm every Saturday.  We don’t have a phone and tours are very informal.  No reservations are needed.  Tours, which include a tasting and admission to the Boozeum, are $8.  Tours last about 45 minutes and run every 20-30 minutes.

Please enter the Navy Yard through the Sands Street Gate.  Our “address” on Flushing is misleading—and Google may direct you to an empty lot on Flushing; Kings County Distillery is the first building past the gate at Sands St. and Navy St.  Closest subways are AC at High St. and the F at York.

We are prohibited from delivering or shipping our products, and we aren’t able to open the distillery for sales, tours, or tastings except for the dates listed on this website.
